North Shore Marine Terminal & Logistics, Inc. operates a full-service marine construction and repair facility and dredging operation on the northwest shore of Lake Michigan. North Shore is a small Michigan-based business. Operations began in 2014 from the facilities of Basic Marine in Escanaba. The Basic Marine shipyard has been in use since 1979.
North Shore is managed by Nick Kobasic, who assumed all operations of the Basic Marine yard in November 2017. Nick served as shipyard manager for 3 years prior to assuming general control and has been with the company for 14 years in all.
North Shore has 74,000 square feet of fabrication, shop and warehouse facilities. The fabrication shop is a fully-equipped steel-fabrication facility with a 1,000-ton Cincinnati brake and a plasma cutting table for cutting, fitting, welding, forming, rolling, surface preparation and coating, and installation of electrical, mechanical and safety systems. The facility is also equipped with a 160' x 65' certified floating drydock with a removable sidewall for vessel inspection and surveying, surface preparation and finishing, repairs, replacements and installations of sections and components, electrical, mechanical and safety systems. The facility has more than 2,000 feet of dockside space and a 1,200-foot pier averaging 24 feet deep. Its generators output 480-volt and 120-volt, single- and triple-phase shore power accessible from the water.
